Getting only one syllable responses to my requests for detailed and up-to-date reports on how my son was doing, I decided to try a new tactic. (All I got was a text saying “good” the last time I asked how he was doing.)

The July 4th Parade lineup begins at 2 PM in the parking lot of the Hartland Bible Church in Gasport. Parade procession will begin promptly at 3 PM. RHBPA will purchase $100 worth of candy for this event. Any float is free to enter.
The Wine and Cheese Tasting event is scheduled for Sunday July 24th from 4:30p – 8:30 PM. It will be held at the pavilion behind the Lutheran Church in Middleport. Entertainment provided by the “Easy Street Big Band Sound” from 6-8 PM Vendors will include Yancey’s Fancy Cheese, Alternative Grounds Caffe, and The Chocolate Box. Invitations are out to Darrell’s Rest. and Pizza Place. Wineries to be invited include Vizcarra, Leonard Oaks, Black Willow, and Schultz. Admission will be $10/adult, with ½ price offered to members of the band only. A 20’ x 40’ tent will be rented to help accommodate vendors. Signage for advertising needs to be secured ASAP. RHBPA to pay for advertising and promo materials. It was suggested that a village permit be obtained and the neighborhood be alerted to the event. Also, consideration should be given to port-a-potties and security.
Goat Chip Bingo tickets will be mailed out August 1st for members to sell.

Richard Maedl of Maedl’s Woodcrafts, told us that high definition laminates are a great and a smart choice for your kitchen for many reasons.
Laminates are typically made from a thin layer printed paper bound with melamine resin attached to high-density fiberboard. <– See photo left.
They look great, come in many colors and finish options and they are affordable – much more affordable than the real thing in most cases.
Many folks think they want natural stone, metals, engineered stone or granite only to be disappointed when it cracks, gets scratched, smudged or stained or is damaged from a hot item placed there.
Let’s look at natural stone as a choice. This can include granite, marble, slate and soapstone that are sourced from quarries around the world. So, no two cuts are the same.

Stopped into Diantiques in Gasport yesterday and what a surprise! The place is full of a wide range of interesting items, one of which I purchased. The prices are great and I am returning to purchase an item that I will not disclose as someone else may get to it before I make my return visit.
For a great look inside, look at these shots – Diantiques – and you will want to stop by yourself. Lots of jewelry too, which I am a bit partial too but I bought a hanger for my plant on my first visit.

Imagine how tickled I was to see my sweet photo of three cupcakes made at the Sweet Sixteen Cafe, 16 W. Main Street in Lockport, on a flyer!
My love for cupcakes can’t be hidden. Neither can the 10 pounds they have left on me, but that is another story. The photo brought out the best in those three little beauties and it was sweet, even if I do say so myself. It was even sweeter to have someone else think so!
When I visited for a delicious lunch this Friday, I spied the photo I had taken on a little flyer at the counter and I was glad to see that these works of art were getting the proper attention in the front of that flyer.
And it was no surprise that my lunch was very yummy. I had the “Pick Two” special and chose a turkey sandwich and Winsor Salad. (Who would have thought that pineapple was so great on a salad?) Of course, the little mini cupcake served on the side was the perfect meal topper. (Okay, two of them would have been the perfect meal topper.)
Next time you stop in the Sweet Sixteen Cafe, 16 W. Main Street in Lockport, be sure to try some of their cupcakes to see if they taste as good as they look but, also make sure you mention what a great photo is featured on their flyer at the counter. I did.

Laura has just taken over the consignment shop at 149 Telegraph Road in Middleport called Neat Repeats and she would love to show you what she has planned.
The shop hours, beginning on June 20, 2011, are Mondays through Saturdays from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
I visited this weekend and this is a photo of my purchase – a brand new ladies Notations top that had never been worn – with the tags on! Laura, the new owner, told me that a large number of ladies items sized Large and Extra Large have just come in and this adorable, comfortable and fashionable top was one of them. I snatched it up without even trying it on. And yes, when I got home, it did fit and looks great.
I also learned that the Dollar Room is quite a hit, especially now that summer has arrived and the kids need play clothes. The room is packed full of new or gently used items that are all ONLY $1.
There are a ton of jeans and great brand names tops for the teens too – a almost got a hoodie for my son but realized that he already has about three too many – but it was in great shape and was Abercrombie and Fitch. Very tempting.
Laura told me that she also takes donations of clothing if you are cleaning things out and would just like it gone. Items must be clean, gently used, pet hair and odor free. Give Laura a call to learn more at (716) 735-7417.
