What Should You Expect on Your First Visit at Gasport Chiropractic?
At Gasport Chiropractic & Wellness, PC our examinations procedures are geared toward detection and correction of the “Vertebral Subluxation”. The procedures we use are therefore specifically selected for your spine and nervous system health. There are a couple of things that you should expect when you have a first visit at our clinic. Here is a brief overview below, and for more information you can visit our website.
Our Examination consists of a thorough spinal and nervous system exam which includes “Palpation”. Palpation essentially is checking your spine by hand. With this exam the doctor can feel areas of your spine that may be involved with subluxations problems. Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone can also be examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxations.
Your examination will also include a computerized examination called the “Insight Millennium Subluxation Examination.” This examination involves several important components.
The first part of this examination process involves reading spinal heat differences from one level of the spine to another, as well as from one side of the spine to the other. Heat is a by product of circulation, which is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. From this we can see how subluxation may be affecting these functions of your nervous system.
In the second part of this examination the Insight Millennium Subluxation Examination scans the surface of your spinal area for surface electrical impulses, and measures them along your spine. This helps measure the affect of subluxation on the motor nerve system and the affect subluxations may be having on your muscles.
Digital foot scans will be done on each patient using the Associate Platinum™ scanner from FootLevelers, it is a scanner that lets chiropractors examine your feet and each foot’s three arches, then show you a color photo of your feet where your may have issues that could affect the rest of your body. From the digital foot scan any areas of abnormal pressure can be seen which could show an imbalanced distribution of weight between the feet indicating a fatigue of one of the three arches in the foot.
Spinal X-rays may be taken depending on your age, and situation. There are many reasons why we would not take x-rays on certain patients including pregnancy, most children, recent usable spinal x-rays and some other various situations. Aside from these situations, x-rays are a common part of the examination process when looking for vertebral subluxations.
You will be scheduled for your Report of Findings within a few days of your initial visit. This visit is your most important visit and may take up to one hour. It is at your Report of Findings that we will give you a care plan and go over any special instructions you will need to obtain the best and fastest possible results. We have set aside specific times for these visits so as not to interfere with regular patient care hours. Our staff will schedule your Report of Findings with you after your first visit.

It was a celebration of National Alpaca Farms Days and a new baby arrived!
On Sunday, September 25 a new little alpaca was born, right in the middle of the National Alpaca Farms Days celebration at A Stroka Gene-us Alpacas, 10314 Johnson Road in Middleport, New York. (National Alpaca Farms Days took place on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 & 25.)
Not only did visitors get a free farm tour, learn at fiber arts demonstrations, looked at all the amazing alpaca clothing and craft items inside the alpaca farm store and even enjoyed some lunch, they got to see so many beautiful alpacas, including the newborn baby alpaca pictured here.
A Stroka Gene-us Alpaca Farm is available for your group or organization to visit. We do special tours that can include spinning demonstrations, learning about alpacas and their wool that is warmer than sheep wool and softer too – you can even feel it for yourself. Let us know your needs and we can arrange for a fun and educational visit at our farm.
Especially when you have been created by Woodman Farms. It just happens – you are cute – and one can never be too cute. (Hollywood types say you can never be too thin, but this does not apply to toys – they HAVE to be stuffed.)
Oh, some may say you are a pig, or your ears are long and pointy or maybe your eyes bug out, but if you are a Woodman Farms hand knitted toy creation, it doesn’t matter. You are still cute and cuddly. Just take a look at this family of Woodman Farms creatures/creations and you will see what we mean.
Handmade to Order
And just name the animal, character, movie creature, and it can be copied in yarn and stuffing materials just for your child to love and cuddle. Even your live pets can be replicated – without the ability to stain your carpets, of course.
Need a great and very individualized gift item that is handmade in the USA? Contact Woodman Farms with your idea or request and we’ll do our best. We do take orders by phone and are at a variety of local shows – call us at 510-6707 to see where we will be next!

Well, the picture just about says it all – it’s not hard to see what the Carpet Doctor can do to perk up your carpet, upholstery and rugs.
Just look at the difference between the clean top portion of this upholstery and the bottom section that was not cleaned by The Carpet Doctor. Most people are amazed when they see what has accumulated over time.
Often we don’t see the everyday wear and dirt that slowly builds up on our carpets, rugs, upholstery, and in our tile and grout surfaces. The dirt in the fibers can actually cause it more wear and tear as the dirt abrades the fibers so they become dull and your carpet or rugs need replacement before their time is really up.
Let the Carpet Doctor treat your rugs, carpets, tile, and upholstery so that it looks great, smells clean and fresh and has the life expectancy that is was meant to have.
And we also can accept your area rugs for drop off cleaning – just call us at (716) 772-RUGS and we can help you connect the dots for clean rugs, carpets, upholstery, tile and grout surfaces in your home or in your office.

Question: Does Acupuncture Hurt? What if I am afraid of needles?
Acupuncture is a safe and relatively painless treatment when performed by a qualified and conscientious practitioner. Licensed acupuncturists know the human anatomy well and are trained to insert needles safely.
Acupuncture needles are sterilized and disposable after a single use. An acupuncture needle is not the same as a medical hypodermic needle, they are many time thinner.
With needle insertion you may experience a brief discomfort as the needle penetrates the skin that can be followed by a mild sensation of tingling, warmth, or heaviness, that usually disappears.
Most people find the experience extremely relaxing and uplifting and even fall asleep for the duration of the treatment.
The benefits of acupuncture, an ancient and effective Chinese method for treating a wide variety of health conditions, is getting more recognition by members of the medical community all over the world, and many people are getting relief with acupuncture treatment.
For more about what acupuncture can do, visit PointsAcupuncture.com or call Stacey Austin at (716) 778-8627.

You’ve heard time and time again that your organization should be interacting on Facebook and Twitter, and even posting regularly on your blog. If you are, you’re heading in the right direction.
But what do you do when you receive a negative comment on one of these outlets?
Embrace It
It doesn’t do you any good to delete every negative comment you receive on your social media outlets. If you do, you’re not being transparent—and that can hurt you in the long run. Keep the posts, and be aware of what you can do next.
Comment Back
It might be a customer who’s having issues with a product or service you provide, or someone who hates the world and is bringing you down with them—but it’s important that you leave a comment in return.
You need to remember that customer service isn’t just for your team on the phones. With the rise of technology, and how much time people spend on the internet, providing good customer service online is key.
Play Nice
These commenters might be taking you down with them, but when you kill them with kindness—you’re the good guy. Having that digital smile on doesn’t necessarily mean you should admit you’re wrong in any circumstance, but being helpful addressing needs and possible mistakes will show that you’re reliable.
Don’t take social media for granted. It’s a great way to extend that amazing customer service you tout. When you get those negative comments on your pages, don’t back down. Be transparent, helpful and get a conversation going. Sometimes even your biggest fans will jump in and help you by making good comments against the negative feedback.

Mills Jewelers has helped to commemorate expressions of love and milestone moments for generations of Western New Yorkers, who have promised to love and cherish with a diamond that will last throughout time as a silent reminder of everlasting love. And now, more about diamonds from Mills Jewelers, 51 Main Street in Lockport.
Did you know that a diamond’s cut is different than its shape? Cut refers to how a diamond is proportioned. Shape refers to the outline of the diameter. Some popular shapes are round, oval, square, pear, rectangular, trillion, and heart shaped. Each of these shapes can be cut in different styles of faceting. For instance, when a square shape is cut with triangular and kite shaped facets the cutting style is known as princess cut. When the same shape is cut with long rectangular facets, the style of cut is known as a step cut or an emerald cut. Round diamonds are usually cut in a style with 57 facets known as a brilliant cut.
Proportions determine brilliance. A properly cut diamond will reflect nearly 100% of the light entering the surface. If cut out of proportion, some of this light is lost through the bottom or side of the stone. If a diamond is cut too deep, light goes through the top and out of the side, making the stone look dark. If it is cut too shallow, light goes straight through the top and out of the bottom making it look lifeless.
Diamonds can dance with light. When light enters the flat surface of the table and exits through the angled facets of the crown, a flash of prismatic colors can occur. This is called “dispersion”. When light bounces off the perfectly polished surfaces of diamond facets, a rapid fire spark of white reflected light can occur. This is called “scintillation”. A diamond must be fashioned to catch every beam of light and choreograph its movement perfectly within the stone. If the dance is successful, the light is released back to surface where it is caught by the eyes of those who admire it. This total display of light is known as brilliance.
A round diamond is not always round. In fact, diameter is usually listed as two measurements, the most narrow to the widest. The flat surface facet called the table may look like it is in the center, but look again. It may not be. Facet corners should meet but they don’t always. The point of the diamond, or culet, should be in the center but sometimes it’s not. When facets are not shaped or positioned exactly how or where they are expected to be, light must find a different path. These variations in symmetry affect brilliance.
One thing affects the other. It’s the combined sum of all the angles, depth, symmetry and polish that will determine how much sparkle your diamond will exhibit. For instance, a larger table will make the diamond look brighter but reduce the dispersion of colors from the smaller crown facets. The effects of a deep pavilion may be camouflaged by a larger table. These are decisions that are carefully considered by the highly trained cutter. In order to achieve the best proportions, he may have to remove up to 50% of the rough diamond
Differences in Cut are easy to see but not so to define . A diamond that is well cut will seem to inhale light and breathe fire. A diamond that is deficient in cut will be obvious next to such a dazzler. Since there are so many variables in determining the ideal cut, grading in this category has been subject to years of debate. For a list of these different variables, go to Mills Jewelers online.
Mills Jewelers Diamonds are selected for superior cut. Every diamond is individually chosen by our own Graduate Gemologist (GIA) to meet the highest standards for brilliance. When you want a brilliant diamond for the one your love, come to Mills Jewelers.

Thank you Andy and Greg for selling hotdogs at the Car Show which made a profit of $50.00!
Discussed: Speed Marketing Event – It was suggested that RHBPA do a combined event with Medina Business Association and have a simple buffet or members could bring hors d’oeuvres and cookies. See attached questionnaire at the end of this post. Please share any other ideas you have at the next meeting.
More on Music in the Park/Wine & Chocolate Event: Wayne Blumrick has all the ticket stubs with people’s names and addresses so announcement cards can be sent out next year. Professional signs should be made to promote the event.
$100 was approved for the Girl Scouts to plant mums in the flower barrels.
April suggested more activities to coincide with the Tree Lighting Ceremony, possibly a sleigh ride with reindeer. Alternative Grounds may have a Christmas Tea. Bring your ideas to the next meeting.

Joe Mahley is a WNY native, born and raised in Niagara County. He would mostly describe himself as a project manager at CitiBank in Getzville, however recently a hobby of his has taken him in another direction.
Joe did some doodling as a child growing up in Middleport, as most kids do, but by the time he was in high school, sports occupied most of his time.
Joe was also diagnosed with cancer in three areas of his body by the time he was 16. The cancer slowed him down only a little bit, but Joe persevered with his strong faith and positive personality.
By 19, he was cancer free and was able to take some art classes at Niagara County Community College along with his computer courses. It was at NCCC, Joe Mahley truly discovered his talent and his love of art.
Joe drew on and off over the years. He got married, had two beautiful little girls and settled into his career as a programmer. Last year, while on a day off from work, Joe decided to draw some people from an online website called Reddit. He then posted the pictures he drew and made a comment that people should buy them for Valentine’s Day.
Overnight the website that he posted his drawings on received over 170 thousand hits. By the end of the next day, over 250 thousand people had looked at his drawings. People from all over the world started ordering photos. Joe immediately opened East Avenue Art, an online art company.
This past week Joe entered his first art show in Lancaster, NY. He brought some ballerinas he had drawn, hoping to sell some prints. Joe was quite surprised when he won the ribbon for “First Place Expert” and a cash prize at his first show ever. The award he won was the highest honor that the show gave out. The head judge was quoted as saying that they haven’t seen talent like this in a long time, and Joe Mahley has what it takes to go all the way.
Joe continues to work from his Lockport studio taking commissions for portraits, pets, and homes. He has a website, www.EastAveArt.com and facebook page under “East Avenue Art.”
So much is being said lately about “natural” candles and the folks at The Candle Nook LLC, 409 Main Street in Medina, would like to share some information with you.
There is much debate in the retail industry over soy vs parraffin. The truth is, one is just as good as the other for making candles and the type of wax used melts down to personal preference. If a retailer sells only soy-based candles, then it only stands to reason that the “benefits” of soy over paraffin will be marketed.
At The Candle Nook LLC, we use primarily paraffin wax, but do make soy candles upon request. Soy does not burn any cleaner than paraffin, just the following questions and answers taken from the National Candle Association’s website:
What kinds of waxes are typically used in candles?
The most commonly used candle wax is paraffin. Beeswax, soy wax, palm wax, gels, and synthetic waxes are also frequently used in candles. Different blends of these waxes are popular with many manufacturers.
Are certain candle waxes better than others?
No. All types of quality candle waxes have been shown to burn cleanly, safely and in the same manner. U.S. candle
manufacturers select waxes or blends of waxes based on their suitability for specific types of candles or formulation profiles, as well as their own candle-making preferences.
Is paraffin wax toxic?
No. Paraffin wax – like all candle waxes – is non-toxic. In fact, paraffin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration for use in food, cosmetics, and medical applications. Food-grade paraffin is commonly used for manufacturing candles.
A natural ingredient, as opposed to a manufactured or synthesized ingredient, is not necessarily any safer. In fact, scores of natural ingredients are known to be extremely toxic to humans in very small amounts.

Okay, so this recipe from Vonda Westcott, Independent Consultant for The Pampered Chef, is a great one for Fridays in Lent – it’s meatless. And delicious!
Sweet & Sour Shrimp with Noodles
Ingredients:
8 uncooked lasagna noodles
1 can (14.5 oz) chicken broth
(about 2 cups/500 mL)
¼ cup (50 mL) water
3 garlic cloves, pressed
2 small onions
1 medium green bell pepper
1 medium red bell pepper
1 lb (450 g) medium uncooked shrimp
(41-50 per pound), peeled and deveined,
tails removed
3 tbsp (45 mL) Asian Seasoning Mix
2/3 cup (150 mL) Sweet & Sour Sauce
1 cup (250 mL) diced fresh pineapple
½ cup (125 mL) chopped fresh basil leaves
Directions:
1. Break noodles crosswise into narrow strips. Combine noodles, broth, water and garlic pressed with
Garlic Press in Deep Covered Baker. Microwave, covered, on HIGH 14-16 minutes or until noodles
are tender, stirring every 5 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, cut onions lengthwise into wedges using Veggie Wedger and dice bell peppers using
Santoku Knife. Combine shrimp and seasoning mix in Stainless (2-qt./2-L) Mixing Bowl; mix
well. Add onions and peppers to baker. Microwave, covered, on HIGH 2-3 minutes or until peppers
are crisp-tender. Add shrimp and sauce to baker; stir. Microwave, covered, on HIGH 3-5 minutes or
until centers of shrimp are opaque. Carefully remove baker from microwave using Oven Mitts. Stir
in pineapple and basil.

If you had any doubts about the effectiveness of carpet cleaning by a professional, let this be a reminder for you…
This is an actual photo that has NOT been retouched that shows what a professional steam cleaning by The Carpet Doctor of WNY can do.
Yes, the homeowner was surprised too. It’s funny how you get used to seeing your carpets and you don’t notice the subtle changes as time wears on.
And as the dirt stays in your carpets, it wears down your carpet fibers. You want to get the dirt out so that it doesn’t break down your fibers – it acts like an abrasive – and makes your carpet look dull as well as shortening its life. That’s right – a regular cleaning can save you money in the long run.
To make carpet last longer, you need to keep them clean. It’s just that simple. So is calling The Carpet Doctor of WNY at (716) 772-RUGS to schedule your cleaning today.

Mills Jewelers, 51 Main Street in Lockport, has collected hundreds of romantic engagement, anniversary, and proposal stories from couples all over the world and we have posted them on our website.
And now, one of our featured romantic stories from our website!
As the last few minutes of 2009 crept by my boyfriend, Anthony, asked me to go out on the balcony of his father’s Las Vegas apartment to watch the fireworks. It was our first New Year’s together and I thought that his suggestion sounded very romantic.
He led me out onto the balcony, and as the clock struck twelve and the fireworks began to explode over the city he dropped down on one knee and took my hand in his as he pulled a tiny box out of his pocket.
I didn’t know how to react as he opened it to reveal a diamond ring that glittered in the reflection of the fireworks. I began to laugh and cry as he said, “Kathleen, my Love, will you marry me?”
I couldn’t stop saying yes through my tears and laughter, as he slipped the ring on my finger and my joy overflowed I couldn’t help but think this was going to be the best year ever.
The Happy Couple
As we went back in to share the good news with Anthony’s family, I took one last look at the ring on my finger and the fiery red of the fireworks reflected in it I felt that it was a perfect reflection of the burning love that we shared.
And when you are ready to get your own fireworks going, remember Mills Jewelers, 51 Main Street in Lockport for creative design, quality diamonds, superior workmanship and the trusted professionals your love deserves for your engagement and wedding rings.

This interesting update brought to you by Summit Print & Mail, 6042 Old Beattie Road in Lockport, where we help businesses take their message to the world.
You have probably encountered one already. Maybe you’ve even tried to snap a photo of one with your mobile phone. We’re talking about those square matrix QR (Quick Response) Codes that have become recently ubiquitous. Sure, you can stick them in your windows, on your direct mail or even your business cards, but it’s important to know where your prospects are going once they take the time to act.
Having a QR Code is one thing, but having a proper landing page to where your code directs is another. A landing page is a unique page on your website that typically has a single purpose, like capturing an e-mail address or selling a product. In the case of a prospect scanning a QR Code, the landing page should be associated with the marketing you’re doing where your prospect discovered your QR Code. Take a look at how to get the most of your QR Codes by creating great landing pages that go with them.
Keep it Simple
Your initial reaction is going to want to fit as much information on this page as you can, but too much information can be overwhelming. It’s important to keep it as simple as you can while still getting your point across. Remember, you want to keep your marketing focused to the campaign you’re running.
Make it Engaging
You only have a few seconds to get your visitors’ attention. Consider making a video or place a striking image of the product you’re trying to sell. Keep the copy simple and interesting. Make sure the visitor understands specifically what they should do while they’re on your landing page.
Call for One Call-to-Action
You got a visitor to your landing page; you want them to act on a specific promotion. Stick to one central call-to-action on your landing page, especially if you’re directing them there from a QR Code. You’ll want to make it a simple a form, with as little work for the visitor as possible to capture your lead. Make sure the button you want the prospect to click is of high contrast to the rest of the elements on the site so it stands out. Having more than one call-to-action can confuse your visitors and cause them to leave your website.
Now what? It’s possible you’re having a giveaway, trying to get registrations for an event or just trying to build awareness for your organization. With a good landing page you’ve given your visitors a reason to act on the marketing you’re doing. Having these visitors to your page means you ended up obtaining information about your prospects. So, now it’s time for you to act. Call us at 433-1014 to get that done.

With more findings like this, Western medicine is sitting up and paying more attention. In short, researchers conducting a study with people getting electronic pain stimulus on their ankles, found that when acupuncture needles were placed on the right side of the subjects’ bodies, the activation of the brain’s pain processing areas was substantially reduced.
When you read the article, you find the reasons or theories why this is so, but it is something that patients who swear by acupuncture for their chronic pain have been saying for years.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about the advantages and disadvantages of the precious metals of platinum and gold. Here is a perfect example of the differences all in one ring. This is a picture of a platinum engagement ring that includes a section of white gold in the shank. The piece was added to increase the size. Obviously this was not the best idea but the lesson may prove valuable to you. The owner of this ring was an avid swimmer. In fact she used to swim at the Lockport YMCA at least once a week.
Take a look at the discolored yellow section of the shank. That section is actually 14k white gold, or should we say was white gold. White gold consists of 58.5 percent gold, the rest is alloy. The alloy is what makes the gold appear white and also gives the metal strength. Over the years, contact with chlorine dissolved the alloy portion of the metal. The white gold section now looks yellow because the natural color of gold is yellow and the part that makes it looks white has been partially dissolved away. The pit marks are the result of the missing alloy. Guess what happens when you gradually remove 41.5 percent of the ring. It crumbles.
Now take a look at the platinum section of the ring. Notice that it is still white and shows no evidence of pitting or cracking. That’s because very little alloy is mixed with platinum for jewelry, usually less than 10%. Also platinum is more dense than gold and therefore harder. Platinum is much more affordable today that it was just one year ago. In fact in recent weeks, gold and platinum have been within the same range per ounce.
It’s time to reconsider Platinum. It’s more secure for your diamonds. It requires less maintenance, and it’s more affordable than ever. If you have any questions, just call WNY’s premiere online jeweler, Mills Jewelry, at 433-6456.

We are very excited to announce that “Siphon Brewing” each gourmet cup of coffee is now available only at Alternative Grounds Caffe!
The brew is smooth, bold, and flavorful! Choose your favorite roast or try something new. You can watch this process work its magic right in front of you.
How does it work?
The water is heated, causing pressure to force the liquid up into the top chamber, where it mixes with the grounds. Then the heat is reduced, and the lower chamber starts to cool, creating a vacuum. That sucks the water back down again, passing through a filter on the way. You end up with a smooth, delicate brew with little to no bitterness; certainly one of the best ways to draw out the flavors of an individual bean.
Have a seat before you sip as this cup of coffee will surely make you weak in the knees, only at Alternative Grounds Caffe, 17 Main Street in Middleport.
