The Final Salute at RBC – A Memorial Day Tribute

May 27 – “The Final Salute” A Memorial Day Tribute at Royalton Bible Church, 8457 Bunker Hill Road, Gasport NY.

Royalton Bible Church, Gasport NYMemorial Day is not about the living, it is about the men and women who have died so that we, the living, can have life and enjoy the freedoms we have. In this very special worship service we invite the area veteran’s organizations, to help us pay tribute our fallen heroes, and honor them with “A Final Salute” at Royalton Bible Church.

The service will include the posting of our nations colors, the singing of patriotic songs, special music, a tribute to the MIA/POW Table, A patriotic DVD presentation, a message of hope from the Bible, the call of veterans, the final salute, firing squad, taps, and prayer.

This is one of two patriotic services that our church puts on in honor of our veterans, and it is always a moving service for everyone who attends. The worship service is followed by a picnic style lunch where our veterans are the honored guest.

The service begins at 10:30 and this is our personal invitation to you to join with us for this very special worship service. If you would like to stay for lunch, please call, (716)433-8030.

Carrousel Chat: “Return to Glory: Restoring Historic Carrousel Horses

Herschell-Carrousel-MuseumHand-carved wooden carrousels, once common in the United States, are being lost to wear and tear, fire, storms, vandalism, and being broken up for sale to collectors. It is estimated that approximately 5,000 hand-carved carrousels were produced in the United States during the “golden age” of carrousels, with perhaps more than 3,000 of these produced by North Tonawanda carrousel manufacturers. Today there are only approximately 120 of these hand-carved masterpieces remaining in the United States. But many groups and organizations are working hard to save them, and the preservation of these few remaining artifacts and related collections is of national concern.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum has an active restoration program focused on its 1916 #1 Special carrousel. Several of the carrousel’s wooden horses are currently undergoing restoration, and the museum hopes to be able to restore all the horses within the next two years. As part of New York Heritage Weekend, the museum is offering a rare behind-the-scenes tour and lecture to share how our antique wooden animals are lovingly returned to their original condition. Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2 PM and join us for this next program in our free Carrousel Chat series.

New York Heritage Weekend celebrates the state’s unique role in shaping America with special events and programs throughout the state. Made possible through partnerships with federal, state, and private organizations, Heritage Weekend not only connects tourists and residents with the state’s rich heritage but also helps stimulate the local economy, generating more than $1.6 million in 2011.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company Factory building at 180 Thompson Street, North Tonawanda. For directions and further information about special events, programs, or group tours, visit our web site: www.carrouselmuseum.org or contact us at 716-693-1885 or info@carrouselmuseum.org.

Bake a Difference

Vonda Westcott, Independent Consultant for The Pampered Chef, Middleport NYThere is no better time to “bake a difference” than the month of May. Pampered Chef is once again helping the fight against breast cancer from May 1 through May 31 by donating $1 for every limited-edition pink item that is purchased at one of their May “Whip Breast Cancer” shows.

At The Pampered Chef®, they feel it is crucial to educate and promote the importance of breast cancer early detection. To support this effort, between May 1 and 31, independent Pampered Chef® Consultants, like Vonda Westcott, raise funds from the sale of pink limited-edition products and Help Whip Cancer® Fundraiser Cooking Shows.

Funds raised by the Help Whip Cancer® campaign are distributed to breast cancer education and early detection programs across the country.

Since the campaign’s beginning in 2000, Consultants and customers have raised more than $7.9 million to Help Whip Cancer®!

(Editor’s Note: I am having a show on May 23 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Leonard Oakes Estate Winery in Medina and Vonda Westcott, Independent Consultant for The Pampered Chef will be there with her pink limited-edition items for sale.)

You can help whip cancer too by scheduling your own show and offering these items for display and purchase so that the $1 donation for every item sold can be given to the American Cancer Society. Call Vonda at (716) 735-7717 to schedule your show in May.

Middleport Free Library Celebrates 83rd Birthday!

To mark the 83 years of service to the Royalton-Hartland community, there was a “Happy Birthday to the Library” celebration on Saturday, April 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, 9 Vernon St in Middleport.

Middleport Free Library, Middleport NYThe 100 guests including Senator George Maziarz enjoyed some special birthday cake and had the chance to see and talk about all the services that the Middleport Free Library has to offer residents now.

The Middleport Free Library received its charter in 1929. Many folks don’t know that at that time, Doris Brunnell, started offering preschool story hours, one of the first programs of its kind in New York State. The library has grown through the years, adding the upstairs community room in 1980 and the four Internet access terminals continue to make it a popular place to come for meetings and special programs, and of course, books, periodicals, DVDs, books on tape and music CDs.

Pieces of History Inside

The Middleport Free Library also houses several unique collections pertinent to the area’s history. Lining the walls of the library are oil paintings of area homes and landscapes painted by Mrs. Myrtle Wilmot, and the local history collection features copies of the “Hammond Gazette,” a newsletter created by Ray Hammond that was sent to area servicemen and women serving in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam.

Hayrides, Animals, Bonfires, Gifts, Food and More at Our Farm!

Our Farm – 7610 Ridge Road, Gasport NY – Open October 7
Our Farm, Hartland NYYou’re invited to come to see and enjoy the beauty of country life at Our Farm. While our Grand Opening is the weekend of October 28 through October 30, we’d love to have you visit us as we get ready for fall fun at Our Farm.

Hidden Hollows Hayrides

Bring the family to ride on a good old-fashioned hayride as we take you through some of the most beautiful pastures, meadows, hollows and woods in Niagara County. Ride in our comfortable Our Farm hay wagon and look for deer, fox, rabbits, and more wildlife among the green meadows and ever-changing fall leaves.

When you’re done with your ride, pet our animals, wander through our country garden, enjoy a delicious meal from Billy’s Beef or shop in the Country Store for some local specialty items to remind you of your visit to Our Farm. There will be a bonfire each evening at dusk, which is the perfect place to sip a nice hot chocolate and listen to the sounds that fill the country night air.

Visit Our Farm

And we’d love to hear how you liked Our Farm as we get ready for our Grand Opening – let us know what your favorite place along the hayride trail is. Tell us what songs you would like to sing around the bonfire each night at dusk or what you think of the local items for sale in the Country Store.

Our Farm will be open Friday, Saturdays and Sundays from October 7 through December 31 from 11 AM to 9 PM. Cross country ski trails will be open this winter too – more information about our ski trails and our Grand Opening to come!

Our Farm is the home of Billy’s Beef and Maggie’s Kitchen and we’ll be open to serve you our famous roast beef on weck, french fries (that are THE BEST), hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, coffee, soda, cider, hot chocolate and water. Get the kids one of Billy’s Kid’s Meals (and we think that everyone is a kid) featuring a sandwich of your choice, fries and a drink at Our Farm.
