Laminates are typically made from a thin layer printed paper bound with melamine resin attached to high-density fiberboard. <– See photo left.
They look great, come in many colors and finish options and they are affordable – much more affordable than the real thing in most cases.
Many folks think they want natural stone, metals, engineered stone or granite only to be disappointed when it cracks, gets scratched, smudged or stained or is damaged from a hot item placed there.
Let’s look at natural stone as a choice. This can include granite, marble, slate and soapstone that are sourced from quarries around the world. So, no two cuts are the same.
While natural stone is naturally heat and scratch resistant, extremely durable and comes in a wide variety of grains and hues, it’s expensive. The softer stone can crack, chip or scratch.
